ISLAMABAD: A joint sitting of Pakistan’s Parliament has approved the Domestic Violence Prevention and Protection Bill 2025, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to address domestic abuse.
The bill, which had been under discussion for months, was praised for its inclusive approach. For the first time, men have been explicitly included as beneficiaries of protection under the legislation. Speaking to the media, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry expressed his satisfaction with the development.
“I think the unique aspect of this bills it the provision it offers to men. Poor men never make it to such bills so this this would be beneficial for men that they will get protection from domestic violence as well,” he said.
Chaudhry described the inclusion of men in the bill as a historic and necessary step, noting that it ensures comprehensive safeguards for all victims of domestic abuse, regardless of gender. He added that this legislative update strengthens Pakistan’s framework for tackling domestic violence and reflects the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals in society.
With the bill now approved by the joint session, authorities will begin implementing its provisions across the country, providing legal recourse and protection for victims of domestic violence, both women and men.
