Hospitals across Karak have suspended all non-emergency services in protest against the killing of Dr Mehwish at the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital in Kohat, highlighting growing insecurity within the medical community.
Young doctors stage protests, criticise provincial government
The Young Doctors Association, Karak led demonstrations across the district, strongly condemning the provincial government for failing to ensure the safety of medical professionals. Association officials said the murder of Dr Mehwish, following the recent killing of Dr Warda, reflects a pattern of targeted attacks against doctors and amounts to criminal negligence on the part of authorities.
“Dr Mehwish’s killing is an attack on the entire medical community,” the association said, urging that the case be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act. They called for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators, warning that the protests would intensify if their demands are ignored.
Protest to continue until justice is served
The Young Doctors Association has warned that, should their demands remain unmet, even emergency services may be suspended in affected hospitals. They vowed to continue demonstrations until the killers are brought to justice, underscoring the heightened sense of insecurity among medical staff in the district.
The community-wide outcry reflects mounting frustration over repeated attacks on healthcare workers and the government’s perceived inaction in protecting frontline medical professionals.
