Dr Usman Anwar ascends as DG FIA, Rao Abdul Kareem appointed as new IG Punjab

WEB DESK: Following the speculations earlier, former Punjab Inspector General, Dr Usman Anwar has been appointed as the new Director General, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) while Rao Abdul Kareem would be taking his position as the IG Punjab.
Both notifications have been issued.

During Dr Anwar’s tenure with the Punjab Police, he also served as additional IG of the Special Branch, director of FIA Lahore, and DPO of Okara and Sargodha.
Who is Rao Abdul Kareem?
Rao Abdul Kareem is a seasoned officer with nearly 30 years of experience in law enforcement. He joined the Police Service of Pakistan in 1996 through the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination and has held key field and leadership roles across the country. His postings include serving as superintendent of police in Lahore, and as district police officer in Mianwali, Kasur, and Jhang, giving him extensive experience in both urban and rural policing.

In senior leadership positions, Kareem has served as regional police officer in Gujranwala, deputy inspector general of Sindh’s Telecommunications and Transport, and additional inspector general with the Punjab Highway Patrol, overseeing highway security and traffic enforcement. For the past year, he held the post of Punjab IG of the Special Branch, focusing on intelligence and internal security. Earlier, he also served as director of immigration at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), managing border and immigration matters.
