Dr Yasmin Rashid granted bail in arson case

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court has approved the bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Yasmin Rashid in case pertaining to the burning of police vehicles in Lahore’s Moghalpura area.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul announcing the verdict directed Dr Rashid to submit bail bond worth Rs100,000.

The hearing on her bail petitions in three other cases was adjourned until November 25.

She has also filed bail applications in the Askari Tower attack case and another case involving the burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House.

It is worth noting that Dr Yasmin Rashid has already been convicted in four separate cases related to the events of May 9.

In an earlier judgment regarding the burning of a government vehicle on May 9, the court acquitted PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi due to lack of evidence of his presence, while Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mehmood ur Rasheed and Omar Sarfaraz Cheema were each sentenced to ten years in prison.

The court also acquitted Rubina Jameel and Afsheen Tariq in the same case.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul delivered the verdict at Kot Lakhpat Jail, sentencing Khadija Shah to five years in prison as well.

According to the judgment, a challan was submitted against 51 accused in Sarwar Road police station case.

The court has completed the trial of 39 accused, while 12 have been declared absconders. The case also includes five female accused.
