Authorities have announced strict enforcement of revised speed limits on motorways and national highways, warning drivers to follow safety rules during Eid travel.

According to the Central Region spokesperson, cars on motorways will be limited to 100 kilometres per hour, while heavy traffic will be restricted to 90 kilometres per hour. On national highways, the speed limit has been set at 80 kilometres per hour for cars and 65 kilometres per hour for heavy vehicles. The spokesperson said action against overspeeding is already underway under the new limits.

The statement added that a campaign against overcharging passengers is continuing across the Central Region on the instructions of IG Sultan Chaudhry. Officials said passengers are being refunded excess fares in N-5 Central Sector One, MC-1 and MC-2 zones, with effective enforcement measures in place.

The spokesperson also said a strict crackdown has been launched against transporters accused of subjecting passengers to inhumane treatment, particularly those making people sit in luggage compartments or storage spaces. Heavy fines are also being imposed on vehicles involved in overloading.

Calling on citizens to travel carefully during Eid, the Central Region urged the public to prioritise safety and follow traffic rules throughout their journeys.
