LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province, placing a month-long ban on the use of drones in open areas amid heightened security concerns.
According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restriction takes immediate effect and will remain in place for 30 days. The order prohibits the flying of all outdoor drones, with authorities citing the need to prevent potential security threats and ensure public safety.
Officials said the measure is part of broader efforts to maintain law and order and protect public and private property. The decision empowers local administrations and police to take action against violations under Section 144, which allows the government to restrict certain activities in the interest of public safety.

While outdoor drone operations have been completely barred, the notification permits limited use of small drones during indoor events held in enclosed spaces such as halls and marquees. However, organisers of such events will bear full responsibility for ensuring that drone use remains safe and compliant with the law.
The ban does not apply to law enforcement and intelligence agencies, which are exempted from the restrictions in order to carry out official duties.
A spokesperson for the Home Department said the step was taken as a precautionary measure, noting that safeguarding citizens and preserving peace across Punjab remain the government’s top priorities. Authorities across the province have been directed to strictly enforce the ban throughout its duration.
