Dropped catches proved costly for Pakistan: Babar Azam

BENGALURU: In a post-match press conference, Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam, shared his thoughts on the demanding encounter against Australia, where Pakistan faced a challenging target of 368 runs.

“During the first 34 overs in the field, we had a tough time,” Babar Azam stated, highlighting the initial struggles his team faced while fielding.

He emphasized that catches were dropped, and it proved to be costly. Pakistan had even managed to secure a crucial catch of Australia’s David Warner, but dropped opportunities cost them dearly, he said.

He said that in the latter 15 overs, Pakistan’s fast bowlers and spinners made a strong comeback, giving hope for a successful chase.

Babar said: “The message for the batsmen was clear: we are capable of achieving this feat, but it required a strong partnership.”

National cricketer Abdullah Shafique also addressed the media, acknowledging that Australia played exceptionally well in the match.

He expressed the team’s efforts to reach the target but lamented the loss of wickets in the middle overs.

He noted that in cricket, sometimes the bowlers perform, and at other times, it’s the batsmen. Looking ahead, he said the team aimed to play better cricket in future matches.

The high-scoring match was marred by the crucial dropped catch that affected Pakistan’s chances of a victory.
