Dylan Carter died from blunt force injuries sustained in a car crash in South Carolina, with authorities ruling the incident accidental, according to reports.
The 24-year-old, who appeared on season 24 of The Voice, was driving alone late at night when his vehicle left the road in Colleton County. Law enforcement officials said the car struck a pole and a fence before overturning.
Carter was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the coroner. He later died in hospital from his injuries.
Crash details confirmed by authorities
Officials said the incident occurred shortly after 11pm, with Carter behind the wheel of a 2026 Tesla sedan. The Colleton County coroner ruled his death accidental following an examination.
No other vehicles were reported to be involved.
Breakout moment on ‘The Voice’
Carter rose to prominence during his audition on The Voice, performing I Look to You by Whitney Houston in a tribute to his late mother.
The performance led all four judges to turn their chairs, including Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Niall Horan.
He later joined McEntire’s team but was eliminated during the Battle Rounds.
Family pays tribute
Carter’s family confirmed his death in a statement, saying they were “heartbroken”.
They described him as a valued member of the community who often performed at local events.
“His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt,” the statement read.
They added that he meant far more to them than his public profile, remembering him as a close friend and loved family member.
