WEB DESK: Wimbledon’s fourth round continues on Monday, with Alexandra Eala aiming to extend her remarkable run when she takes on two-time Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini in a high-stakes encounter.
Eala has been one of the standout stories of the tournament, already enjoying a breakout season with wins over Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff. She made headlines again on Saturday when she stunned defending champion Iga Swiatek to reach the last 16.
The 21-year-old Filipina now faces another major test in Paolini, though she remains confident while respecting her opponent’s quality.
“She is a great fighter. It was not an easy match for me in Dubai. It will not be an easy match here either,” Eala said.
Paolini, ranked world No17, praised Eala’s all-round game and rising threat on grass.
“I think that the game of Eala’s fits very well on grass… I think she’s a very dangerous player here,” Paolini said. “She’s playing great. She has a huge crowd with her. It’s so good for our sport.”
In the men’s draw, sixth seed Taylor Fritz will face Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in another intriguing fourth-round clash.
Bublik advanced after a hard-fought win over Frances Tiafoe and is known for his unpredictable style and shot-making flair.
“It’s going to be a great match against Taylor. I hope to be in form,” Bublik said. “I have to take care of my body, and I hope to deliver a great performance.”
The head-to-head between Fritz and Bublik is level at 4-4, although the American has won both of their grass-court meetings, including a semi-final in Stuttgart last month.
Elsewhere, Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov continues his Wimbledon comeback after last year’s injury setback. The 35-year-old, who suffered a pectoral tear during his 2025 campaign, says he is focused on enjoying the moment rather than results.
“Right now, we’re just living in the moment,” Dimitrov said. “Falling in love again with the game… the outcome becomes secondary.”
He will face British wildcard Arthur Fery in their fourth-round meeting.
Monday’s order of play also features top names, including Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Madison Keys and others across Centre Court and Court One.
