Early morning assemblies in schools suspended in Punjab till further notice

LAHORE: The Punjab government has directed all schools across the province to suspend morning assemblies until further notice, to ensure students are safe amid growing regional tensions.

The government also directed the schools to strengthen security measures by installing CCTV cameras must in their full operational maintenance.

The measures issued also reflected on the teachers’ role, saying that they are required to install the Punjab Safe City app on their Android devices to stay connected with local authorities. The main school gates are to remain closed during school hours, limiting unauthorised access.

Emergency preparedness has also been emphasised. Schools are expected to conduct drills and ensure that both students and staff are fully aware of all exit points, so everyone can respond quickly in case of an emergency. High school students are explicitly prohibited from participating in any protests, keeping them away from potential risks.

To maintain accountability, daily compliance reports, complete with photographs, must be submitted to the authorities. The government reiterated that these measures are temporary but critical, designed to protect children and school staff during uncertain times.
