GILGIT: A strong earthquake jolted the Chupursan border area of Hunza Valley on Monday afternoon, damaging more than 100 houses and triggering landslides that cut off road access, officials and residents said.
No loss of life has been reported so far, but severe cold and blocked roads have left affected families struggling and awaiting urgent government assistance.
According to local residents, more than 100 houses in Chupursan Valley suffered partial damage due to the earthquake.
In particular, several homes in the villages of Zoodkhun and Sostmerg developed cracks in walls and roofs, forcing residents to avoid staying indoors amid fears of further collapse.

The situation worsened after landslides at multiple locations blocked the only connecting road, cutting off land access to the affected areas.
Harsh weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures have added to the difficulties faced by affected families, especially children, women and the elderly.
Locals said that it was impossible to stay under the open sky in the extreme cold, while road closures were also hampering relief activities.
Residents have urged the government and relevant authorities to immediately restore road connectivity, conduct damage assessments of affected houses and ensure the provision of emergency relief.
Those affected are currently waiting for government assistance and have called for swift and effective measures to deal with the natural disaster to prevent a humanitarian crisis.
