WEB DESK: A powerful earthquake struck Gilgit-Baltistan and its adjoining areas, sending shockwaves through the region.

The tremors, with a magnitude of 5.2, were felt strongly in Chillas, prompting residents to evacuate their homes in fear.

The seismic activity also affected neighboring countries, including India, Pakistan, and China, as reported by Google. The widespread impact has raised concerns about the potential aftermath.

Prior to the earthquake, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan had already taken precautionary measures due to the forecast of heavy rains and snowfall in the region.

In response to the seismic activity, he instructed the administration to be on high alert and to implement advance measures to address any emergency situations that may arise.

Chief Minister Khan emphasised the importance of maintaining communication infrastructure, ensuring the availability of machinery for road maintenance, and having the administration ready for an immediate response.
