ECP denies rigging allegations by commissioner Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has firmly denied the accusations made by Commissioner Rawalpindi, stating that no directives were issued to him to rig elections.
Earlier, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatta admitting to election rigging in Rawalpidi division had resigned from his post.

The ECP spokesperson clarified that no higher authority instructed the commissioner to manipulate votes or interfere with the electoral process.

Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized that divisional commissioners are not appointed as District Returning Officers (DROs), Returning Officers (ROs), or presiding officers, casting doubt on Commissioner Rawalpindi’s claims.
The ECP has assured that the matter will be subject to a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure the integrity of the electoral system.
