ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to take up the case regarding the allocation of reserved seats for the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), following its electoral alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The ECP has scheduled a hearing on the matter for tomorrow and has issued a cause list for the session. Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, a five-member bench will convene at 10 am to deliberate on the case.
Four petitions concerning the reserved seats issue have been submitted, filed respectively by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Mahmood Ahmed, Maulvi Iqbal Haider, and Kanz al-Sadat. These petitions will be reviewed during the hearing.
Additionally, the ECP has sent a notice to the Sunni Ittehad Council, summoning its representatives to appear before the commission tomorrow.
The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has recently formed an electoral alliance with the PTI, a major political party in Pakistan, after of the general election. However, concerns have been raised regarding the allocation of reserved seats for the SIC, prompting the ECP to take up the case for review.
