Eid al-Fitr holidays announced across the country

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Sunday announced public holidays across Pakistan on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, according to an official notification issued on Sunday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved two days of public holidays for Eid al-Fitr on March 20 and March 21, 2026, allowing citizens to celebrate the religious festival with their families.

The notification, issued by the Cabinet Division of Pakistan, says that March 20 (Friday) and March 21 (Saturday) will be observed as public holidays across Pakistan.

The Cabinet Division said that the holidays will apply to all government offices, including institutions operating under both five-day and six-day workweek systems.

The notification has been circulated to relevant departments, confirming the schedule for Eid al-Fitr holidays nationwide.

The announcement comes as preparations for Eid al-Fitr gather pace across Pakistan, with markets witnessing increased activity as people purchase clothes, sweets and gifts ahead of the festival.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan and is celebrated by Muslims with special congregational prayers, family gatherings and acts of charity.

Authorities are also expected to finalise security and administrative arrangements in major cities to facilitate citizens during the Eid holidays, particularly around mosques, shopping areas and recreational spots.
