Eid-ul-Fitr: four special trains; four holidays announced by govt

Pakistan Railways has announced plans to operate four special trains during Eid to accommodate the expected surge in passenger travel, following directives from the Minister of Railways.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said the first special train will depart from Lahore to Karachi on March 16, followed by a Quetta-to-Rawalpindi train on March 17. On the same day, a train from Karachi to Peshawar will also run, while the fourth special train from Karachi to Lahore is scheduled for March 18.

“These additional services are being introduced to ensure that passengers can travel comfortably during the Eid holidays,” the spokesperson added. “We are making every effort to manage the increased demand and provide convenient travel options for the public.”

The federal government has also declared four consecutive holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr, covering Friday through Monday, allowing people extra time to celebrate with family and friends.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and SPARCO, Ramadan is expected to be completed after 30 days this year, indicating a strong possibility of Eid falling on Saturday, March 21. However, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold a meeting on March 19 to sight the Shawwal moon and confirm the official date of Eid. Meteorologists predict that the moon may not be visible on that day, but the committee’s decision will be final.

The announcement of special trains comes amid growing demand for safe and reliable travel during major holidays, with railways often experiencing a significant increase in bookings as people return to their hometowns or travel for festivities.
