ISLAMABAD – Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, has taken legal action against his arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Elahi, through his counsel Abdul Razzaque, has named Secretary Interior, IG Police, and other officials as respondents in the plea.
The petition, filed after his release on bail, seeks to annul the MPO arrest issued on Friday and to prevent any further arrests. Elahi alleges that he is being targeted on political grounds.
The petition calls the MPO order issued on September 1 illegal and requests the immediate release of Parvez Elahi.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who had been re-arrested by Islamabad police in Lahore, was relocated to Attock Jail.
IHC orders prevent re-arrest of Imaan Mazari in any new cases
Shortly after his arrival in Islamabad, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) ordered his detention for a 15-day period under the Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), citing concerns over potential disruptions to law and order due to Elahi’s prominent PTI role.
In a separate development, Parvaiz Elahi’s wife has filed a contempt of court petition in the Lahore High Court, alleging that her husband was not safely transferred home despite court orders. The petition names the DIG operations, DIG investigation, and SP high court security as respondents and requests a prompt hearing by the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.
Elahi is one of several PTI leaders facing MPO charges as part of the crackdown on the party following the May 9 riots. His arrest occurred shortly after the Lahore High Court ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to release him and prohibited any further arrests.
The capital police arrested him under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order shortly after his court-ordered release. The NAB had initially detained Elahi over allegations related to the failure to provide information in an assets beyond means case, involving him, his son Moonis Elahi, and other family members.
