ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Friday denied the prosecution’s request for a 10-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi in the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) attack case.
ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain ordered the PTI leader to Adiala jail for a 14-day remand.
Elahi appeared in court today following the conclusion of his initial two-day physical remand. Elahi’s counsel, Sardar Abdul Razzaq, contested the prosecutor’s request for an extension in physical remand, asserting that his client had been named in the case just two days prior to his arrest.
He added that all charges against Elahi were politically motivated.

In his defense, Razzaq informed the court that Elahi had joined the PTI in April of this year and was not part of the Imran Khan-led party when party workers allegedly attacked law enforcement officers outside the FJC on March 19.
Babar Awan, another counsel representing Elahi, urged the court to dismiss the case against his client, stating that the prosecution had failed to provide any evidence linking Elahi to the terror case.
Elahi, speaking in court, mentioned his history of incarceration in various Punjab jails and thanked the judge for inviting him to the rostrum. He also disclosed that he was a cardiac patient with a heart implant.
Additionally, Elahi’s counsel submitted an application requesting permission for his family to visit him and provide him with home-cooked food while in prison.
The judge issued notices to the respondents for a hearing on Elahi’s bail application scheduled for September 11.
Parvez Elahi was arrested shortly after his release from NAB custody on September 1, despite a specific Lahore High Court (LHC) order earlier that day prohibiting his arrest. The police allege that the PTI president sent rioters to Islamabad to vandalize the judicial complex and provided vehicles and batons for the same. The physical remand was sought to question him about unidentified criminals and recover vehicles.
