Election symbol: PTI’s petition against ECP fixed for hearing today

PHC verdict

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) is set to hear a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf petition challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision regarding withdrawal of ‘bat’ as the party’s election symbol.

Justice Kamran Hayat will preside over the hearing.

The PTI had filed a petition earlier today, urging PHC to suspend the recent decision of the ECP that denied issuing them ‘bat’ as election symbol

The party contends that the ECP overstepped its authority by making a decision on the conduct of PTI’s intra-party elections and that the ECP lacks the jurisdiction to intervene in such matters.

Furthermore, the PTI contends that some of the individuals challenging the legitimacy of the intra-party elections are not even members of the party. This raises questions about their standing to challenge the internal processes of the party.

PTI’s Secretary General, Umar Ayub, who was at the court premises to attend the hearing, expressed confidence in the legal process and affirmed the party’s commitment to upholding its democratic principles.
