Elections 2024: over 7,800 election-related complaints received in one month


ISLAMABAD: According to official statistics, the police, district administration, and returning officers have collectively received 7,848 complaints related to the election process this month.

These complaints were registered in 146 cities by the relevant administration. According to the details, 95 per cent of the complaints, i.e. 7,454, have been resolved, while 5 per cent of the complaints, i.e. 394, are under investigation.

This official data was obtained by Hum investigation team from the four provincial election headquarters, chief secretaries, IGs of police and election officials of 16 districts.

Of the 7,848 complaints, 3,658 were filed by candidates and their supporters who are contesting elections, while the remaining 4,190 complaints were filed by ordinary citizens and ordinary voters.

Of the complainants, 1,815 were supporters and candidates of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), while 432 complaints were filed by supporters of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

Similarly, 325 complaints were filed by voters and supporters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), 254 complaints were filed by supporters of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), 187 complaints were filed by supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 132 complaints were filed by supporters and candidates of the Awami National Party (ANP), and 56 complaints were filed by supporters and candidates of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP).

1,452 complaints were filed with returning officers, where local district administration and returning officers resolved 1,114 complaints.

The data shows that 388 complaints are pending with returning officers in 18 districts.

According to the details, the highest number of complaints were seen in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura and Swat.

Lahore received the highest number of 2,145 complaints, followed by Karachi with 1,567 complaints and Faisalabad with 789 complaints. Peshawar received 684 complaints, Rawalpindi received 541 complaints, and Sialkot received 231 complaints. PTI candidates and supporters filed 445 complaints from Lahore, 356 complaints from Peshawar, and 189 complaints from Faisalabad.
