Elliot Cadeau stole the spotlight in the NCAA championship game, leading Michigan to a dramatic 69-63 win over UConn Huskies men’s basketball and sealing the programme’s first title in decades.
Cadeau dropped a game-high 19 points at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, stepping up at a crucial moment as Michigan’s leading star struggled with injury.
Cadeau takes over when it matters most
With Yaxel Lendeborg clearly limited after picking up injuries in the semi-final, Cadeau took control of the game and delivered when Michigan needed him most.
He shot 5-of-11 from the field and dictated the tempo throughout, capping off a standout tournament run.
The guard had already impressed in the Final Four, recording 13 points and 10 assists in a commanding win over Arizona, while averaging 7.5 assists across the tournament.
Michigan end 37-year title drought
Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball held firm in the closing minutes to secure their first NCAA men’s basketball championship since 1989.
Despite struggling from beyond the arc, shooting just 2-of-15 from three-point range, Michigan found a way to get the job done.
Lendeborg added 13 points despite his injury concerns, while Morez Johnson contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
UConn fall short in final push
UConn Huskies men’s basketball, who had made a strong run to the final, were led by Alex Karaban’s 17 points and 11 rebounds.
However, their struggles from three-point range, finishing 9-of-33, proved costly in the decisive moments.
Cadeau caps breakout run
Cadeau, who transferred from North Carolina last summer, averaged 10.3 points, 5.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds this season.
But it was his performance on the biggest stage that defined his campaign, earning him the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player award and cementing his role in Michigan’s title-winning run.
The victory also marked a major milestone for the Big Ten, securing its first men’s basketball championship since 2000.
