WEB DESK: England defeated India to take the lead in the T20I series after producing two commanding batting displays and holding off the visitors in contrasting victories.

In the opening T20I, England secured a comprehensive 56-run victory after posting a massive 257-3 in 20 overs. Captain Jos Buttler led from the front with an unbeaten 131 off just 64 balls, smashing 12 fours and eight sixes, while Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 95 from 45 deliveries. The pair stitched together an unbroken 143-run stand for the fourth wicket to propel England to a daunting total.

Phil Salt scored six before falling to Prasidh Krishna, while Jacob Bethell was dismissed for a duck. Will Jacks remained unbeaten on seven. Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets for India, while Shivam Dube picked up one.

In reply, India finished on 201-8 despite a fighting 82 off 39 balls from captain Shubman Gill. Sanju Samson contributed 52 from 31 deliveries and Abhishek Sharma added 51 off 39, but the visitors failed to keep up with the required run rate.

Adil Rashid starred with the ball for England, taking 3-43, while Liam Dawson claimed two wickets. Brydon Carse, Josh Baker and Jofra Archer took one wicket each. Buttler was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten century.

England followed up with another victory in the second T20I, edging India by five runs in a thrilling high-scoring contest.

After being asked to bat first, England once again posted 257-3, this time powered by Joe Root’s unbeaten 57 off 31 balls. Harry Brook continued his outstanding form with 82 from 42 deliveries, while Will Jacks blasted 70 off just 32 balls.

India came close to pulling off the chase, finishing on 251-8. Shubman Gill once again led the batting with 82 off 39 balls, while Sanju Samson struck 52 from 31 deliveries and Abhishek Sharma scored 51 off 39.

England’s bowlers kept their composure in the closing overs to defend the target. Rashid claimed 3-43, Dawson took two wickets, while Carse and Baker picked up one wicket each.

Root was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten half-century and all-round contribution as England sealed a dramatic five-run victory to strengthen their position in the series.
