ISLAMABAD: European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has expressed serious concerns over recent ceasefire violations between Iran and the United States, emphasising the critical importance of keeping communication channels open to prevent further regional escalation.
Kallas voiced her concerns during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
According to the foreign ministry, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and the European Union, the unfolding situation in the Middle East, and broader regional peace and stability.
During the exchange, Kallas commended Pakistan’s active diplomatic efforts that contributed to the framework of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, aimed at brokering a truce between Washington and Tehran. She stressed that all relevant stakeholders must sustain active lines of dialogue to lower tensions in the region.
Dar briefed the EU official on Pakistan’s ongoing and consistent diplomatic engagements to restore peace, ensure stability, and lower the geopolitical temperature in the Middle East.
He urged all parties involved to fully adhere to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable paths to conflict resolution.
The foreign office added that both leaders agreed to enhance close contact and bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union, while reaffirming their mutual commitment to supporting collective efforts for regional stability.
