Veteran actor Bruce Campbell has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer, describing the condition as “treatable, not curable”.

“Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity’, so let’s go with that, I’m having one of those,” Campbell wrote. “It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’, not ‘curable’. I apologise if that’s a shock, it was to me too.”
The actor said the announcement was intended to get ahead of possible misinformation and to explain upcoming changes to his professional schedule.
“The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail,” he wrote. “I’m posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change. Appearances and fan conventions and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment.”
Campbell added that he hopes to recover sufficiently to promote his upcoming film Ernie & Emma later this year.
He emphasised that he was not seeking sympathy, writing: “I’m not trying to enlist sympathy, or advice. I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out.”
Campbell rose to cult fame with Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic The Evil Dead, later reprising his role as Ash Williams in Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. He also appeared in Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the cult favourite Bubba Ho-tep, and led the television spin-off Ash vs Evil Dead, cementing his status as a genre icon.
In addition to his screen work, Campbell chronicled his Hollywood career in his 2002 autobiography If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor.
