RAWALPINDI: Former Punjab Assembly member Chaudhry Adnan, who had recently lost elections in PP-19 Rawalpindi, was fatally shot in Rawalpindi on Monday.
According to the police, Chaudhry Adnan’s car was targeted with gunfire in front of the Police Lines office in Rawalpindi Cantonment.
Police reported that unidentified assailants on motorcycles opened fire when Chaudhry Adnan’s car stopped at a traffic signal.
The bullet that struck Chaudhry Adnan’s face proved fatal, and his driver, Zaid Hafeez, was also injured in the incident, as per police statements.
The deceased’s body was transported to DHQ Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while the injured driver was also admitted to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A spokesperson for Rawalpindi police issued a statement, indicating that CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani took note of the shooting incident in the Civil Lines area and instructed SP Pothohar to promptly apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the assassination.
The spokesperson mentioned that senior police officials were gathering evidence from the crime scene, with teams assigned to arrest the culprits.
While initial investigations suggest personal enmity as a motive, the incident is being probed from all angles.
It’s worth noting that Chaudhry Adnan was elected as a member of the Punjab Assembly from Rawalpindi’s PP-11 constituency in 2018 on a PTI ticket.
However, following the events of May 9, he parted ways with the party and contested elections as an independent candidate in the recent general election.
