Faisal Kundi says KP people 'welcome' emergency

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that “the people of the province welcome the presidential move to impose an emergency and seek peace, stability, development and prosperity.”

In a video message addressed to the KP people following the imposition of the emergency and governor’s rule, Kundi said that citizens had decided they would no longer support what he called “Fitna al-Khawarij” and would stand alongside security forces in the fight against terrorism until the end.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari signed a summary forwarded by the federal cabinet for the imposition of an emergency and governor’s rule in KP amid concerns over the law and order situation.

Kundi said the KP people of the province wanted a peaceful and prosperous future rather than unrest and instability. He added that they also sought brotherly relations and cooperation with other provinces.

The governor said the people wanted development and prosperity to be promoted through shared experiences and joint efforts, while democratic values were strengthened and the benefits of development reached ordinary citizens.

Describing the people of KP as peace-loving, Kundi said they did not support terrorism or violent activities.

He urged residents to refrain from violating the law, inciting unrest or engaging in rioting, warning that those who disrupted public order or took the law into their own hands would face strict action in accordance with the law.
