Fakhar Zaman’s rehab starts next week; Asia Cup place uncertain

LAHORE: Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman will begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy next week after returning to the country, sources said on Friday.

Fakhar sustained an injury during the second T20I against the West Indies in Lauderhill, USA, which also forced him out of the ODI series.

An initial examination revealed a mild strain in his left thigh. Fakhar himself described it as a minor injury, saying it should heal within 10 to 15 days.

According to sources, the left-hander has contacted the PCB medical panel, which recommended a series of medical tests.

His rehab was initially planned for this week but was delayed due to his late arrival.

This is not the first time an injury has sidelined the opener. He missed Pakistan’s Champions Trophy match against India after picking up an injury against New Zealand, with Imam-ul-Haq replacing him.

ASIA CUP PARTICIPATION

Due to the injury, Fakhar Zaman’s participation in the Asia Cup remains uncertain, with sources claiming he is unlikely to make the tournament. However, his availability will ultimately be decided based on the PCB medical panel’s report.

One thing is certain: Fakhar Zaman will not be taking part in the T20 tri-series in Sharjah from August 29 to September 7, which features Afghanistan and the UAE.
