MUMBAI: Popular singer Alka Yagnik, known for her enchanting voice in Bollywood songs, has revealed that she has lost her hearing. The singer made this announcement in a recent social media post.
On Monday, Alka Yagnik shared a photo from her past on Instagram, accompanied by a long caption addressing her colleagues and fans. She wrote, “A few weeks ago when I got off my flight, I suddenly felt… that I couldn’t hear anything.”
She explained, “It has taken me many days to gather the courage to inform my fans about this, as many were worried about my absence from television.”
Yagnik recounted that when she consulted her doctor, she was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss, a condition where most patients lose hearing in one ear, though some may lose hearing in both ears.
The singer expressed her concern over the diagnosis and urged her friends and followers to avoid listening to loud music and wearing headphones excessively to prevent similar issues. She stated, “The diagnosis of this disease has made me very worried, but I would request all my friends to avoid listening to loud music and wearing too many headphones so that you don’t end up with a disease like me.”
The 58-year-old singer added, “I am grateful for the love and prayers of all my loved ones at this critical time. I hope I recover very soon.”
Several actors and singers, including Sonu Nigam, expressed their grief over Yagnik’s post.
Yagnik, whose career has spanned over three decades, has recorded songs in 16 languages and contributed her voice to 700 films. She has also won numerous awards. She gained widespread recognition with the song “Ek Do Teen” from the film “Tezaab” starring Madhuri Dixit.
