WEB DESK: When former skipper Babar Azam appeared on the pitch in Rawalpindi earlier this week, fans were keenly waiting for him to surpass India’s Rohit Sharma as the highest run maker in T20I but Babar quietly left without making a single one. But yesterday in Lahore, call it the city’s spirit or something else, Babar who needed 9 runs to break Sharma’s 4231 record, made 11 reaching 4234 thus dethroning the Indian batsman and cementing himself proving that ‘King Karlega’. Babar’s fans, perhaps like any sportsperson, have their days where one loyal group would never leave his side, no matter how heartbreaking performance he gives, one would be upset with him and other would jump to call him names whenever he falters. Pakistan won the match levelling the series against South Africa, with another deciding match to follow today, as the Test series was also levelled earlier last month.
This time round, Pakistan cricket fans were more than glad to finally celebrate a win, so much so that some celebrated the wicket of Sahibzada Farhan not because he was playing badly, but only so Babar could appear.
When Babar did make those much awaited nine runs, the fans erupted in joy and took to social media to celebrate their favourite.
Some told him to not pay heed to ‘noise’:
Some wanted to tell him that they flew to see him:
Others showed that his ‘aura’ defined him:
While one made a fair point that people need to stop getting angry on the love Babar receives:
Whatever the case may be, love for Babar does come together whenever he wins hearts of his fans and foes alike.
