WEB DESK: A far-right activist, Valentina Gomez, has sparked widespread condemnation after launching her campaign for the US Congress with an overtly anti-Muslim message. In a video circulating on social media, Gomez declared she was “officially running for US Congress” and vowed to make Texas “the worst place for terrorist Muslims and illegals so help me God”.
In the clip, Gomez frames the election as a stark battle for cultural survival, telling viewers: “For me, this is just an election, but for you, this is your life. Jesus is King.” She goes on to claim that several US states have “already fell to Islam”, naming Minnesota and Michigan, and warns Texas voters that they are “next in line” unless they “vote correctly”.
Her remarks, combining religious appeals with inflammatory rhetoric about immigrants and Muslim communities, immediately drew criticism from civil rights groups and political opponents, who described the statements as dangerous and divisive. Advocacy organisations said the language risked inciting hatred toward minority communities and undermining democratic norms.
Gomez, who has previously aligned herself with hardline conservative causes, did not offer evidence for her claims about Muslim influence in other states. Her messaging reflects a broader trend among some far-right candidates who use fear-based narratives to energise their bases ahead of the 2026 congressional elections.
As Texas prepares for a competitive election cycle, Gomez’s comments are likely to intensify debates on extremism in political discourse and the rising use of religion-driven appeals in US campaigns.
