FATEHJANG: In a significant move to improve healthcare services in the remote areas of the province, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan officially inaugurated the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Dialysis Center and a blood bank at the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Fatehjang on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony, which was attended by local officials, political leaders, and health professionals, marks a key step in the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government’s ongoing efforts to address the healthcare needs of underserved communities.
During his address, Governor Sardar Saleem highlighted the importance of enhancing medical facilities in rural areas. He noted that the new dialysis center would greatly alleviate the suffering of kidney patients from Fatehjang and surrounding towns, who had previously been forced to travel long distances to Attock for treatment. “The establishment of this dialysis center will significantly improve access to essential healthcare services for kidney patients, sparing them from the financial and emotional burdens of travel,” he said.
The newly inaugurated blood bank, the governor added, would cater to the growing needs of patients suffering from chronic conditions such as thalassemia. The facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, aims to provide a steady supply of blood and blood products, which are often in short supply in rural healthcare settings.
PPP Tehsil President Sardar Zaheer Khan, along with other local dignitaries, also attended the ceremony. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Punjab government in prioritising healthcare development in under-resourced areas. “This is a monumental achievement for the people of Fatehjang,” Khan said, highlighting how the new facilities would significantly improve the quality of life for local residents.
In his speech, Governor Sardar Saleem also outlined plans to further expand healthcare services in the region. He announced that a similar dialysis center and a dedicated Mother and Child Health Care Unit would be set up at the THQ Hospital in Jand, another town in the Attock district. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy by the PPP-led provincial government to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Punjab’s rural areas.
After the ceremony, the governor visited the newly constructed dialysis center, where he interacted with some of the first patients to benefit from the facility. Many of the patients expressed their gratitude, noting how the center would not only save them time but also reduce the financial strain associated with regular trips to distant cities for dialysis treatment.
The governor’s visit also included discussions with local health officials about ongoing and future medical projects aimed at ensuring equitable healthcare access across Punjab. With the opening of the dialysis center and blood bank in Fatehjang, the PPP government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing healthcare disparities and bringing essential medical services to remote communities.
