Fawad Khan’s movie, Abir Gulaal, gets new title and release date

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan’s much-delayed Bollywood film, Abir Gulaal movie will be released under a new title on August 29, claims Indian media.

The film, starring Fawas Khan opposite Vaani Kapoor, was initially set to hit cinemas on May 12 this year.

However, it was postponed following a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam area of Indian-occupied Kashmir, days before its expected release.

India blamed Pakistan for the incident, an allegation Islamabad has repeatedly rejected. The incident was followed by a ban on Pakistani artists and YouTube channels, leading to an indefinite hold on the film’s release in India.

Abir Gulaal new title

According to the Times of India, the Abir Gulaal movie title was changed to “Aabeer Gulaal”.

Meanwhile, Gul News reported that the film will premiere on August 29 in the UAE, as per the Vox Cinemas listings.

Distributor Indian Stories Ltd has confirmed the film will bypass Indian cinemas entirely, opting for a worldwide release instead.

The cross-border pairing of Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor has generated considerable buzz, though industry insiders believe the film will not see an official release in India due to the prevailing backlash against Pakistani talent.

Instead, the distributors plan to follow the strategy used for Punjabi film, Sardaar Ji 3, which featured Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and was released internationally but not in India – yet still achieved notable overseas success.

Romantic comedy

Abir Gulaal is directed by Aarti S Bagdi, and produced by Vivek Agrawal. Its a much-anticipated romantic comedy film.

The movie follows the story of Gulaal (Vaani Kapoor), a spirited woman who walks away from an arranged marriage and moves to London, where she meets Abir (Fawad Khan), a charismatic restaurateur with a troubled past.

The story revolves around the two wounded souls whom fate and chance bring together. They find solace and comfort in each other’s company.

Their bond, built accidentally and unintentionally, grows stronger over time, eventually leading them to fall in love.
