The federal cabinet meeting, which was scheduled today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to approve the 27th Constitutional Amendment, has been postponed.
According to sources, the meeting was called off due to the prime minister’s busy schedule. The cabinet was expected to give formal approval to the proposed 27th Amendment during today’s session.
Sources further said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already taken coalition partners into confidence regarding the amendment.
During a meeting with an MQM-Pakistan delegation, the prime minister reportedly assured that the local government bill would be incorporated into the 27th Amendment, after which MQM-P extended its support.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has rejected all clauses of the 27th Amendment except for the proposed change in Article 243.
