FIA launches probe against Nadia Hussain under PECA

Nadia Hussain to be investigated under PECA

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated an investigation against actor and model Nadia Hussain under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly making baseless allegations against the agency.

A day earlier, Nadia took to Instagram, claiming that a fraudster impersonating an FIA officer attempted to scam her.

The incident follows the recent arrest of Nadia’s husband, Atif Khan, in a multi-million rupee embezzlement case. According to Nadia Hussain, a caller posing as an FIA officer demanded a Rs 30 million bribe for her husband’s bail and insisted on keeping the matter private. She initially believed the claim but later realised it was fraudulent.

Nadia reported the scam to FIA and planned to contact NADRA regarding the unauthorised access to her family’s personal information. However, instead of action against the fraudster, FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing launched an investigation against Nadia for allegedly spreading misinformation.

FIA’S STANCE

An FIA spokesperson stated that the scammer had used a senior FIA officer’s photo as a display picture on Instagram while making the fraudulent call. The agency informed Nadia about the impersonation and advised her to file an official complaint with the cybercrime wing.

The FIA warned that no one would be allowed to spread false claims against the agency without evidence and accused Nadia of attempting to damage its reputation.

PHONE SEIZED

The investigation took another turn when FIA officials visited Nadia’s residence to enquire about the incident. Although she was not taken into custody, she was asked to record her statement next week.

As part of the probe, FIA confiscated her mobile phone for forensic analysis. A call-up notice has also been issued, requiring her to appear at the Cyber Crime Office for further proceedings.

FIA officials clarified that the scammer’s phone number was traced to Vehari, and Nadia was informed about the fraudulent nature of the call. Despite this, she had criticised FIA on social media, sparking further controversy.

The investigation is ongoing.
