Field Marshal Asim Munir engages global leaders at 62nd Munich security conference

MUNICH: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, serving as both Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDF), held high-level talks with international leaders during his visit to Germany from February 12 to 14 for the 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC).

On the sidelines of the conference, Field Marshal Munir met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss regional and global security challenges, evolving security dynamics, and counterterrorism cooperation. The discussions focused on measures to strengthen anti-terrorism efforts and enhance collaboration between Pakistan and the United States.

In Germany, Munir also engaged with senior officials, including Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior; Günter Sautter, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Chancellor; and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of the Federal Armed Forces. The talks centered on contemporary security issues, bilateral defence cooperation, and the importance of promoting global peace and security through both bilateral and multilateral dialogue.

Field Marshal Munir further met international military leaders, including Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, to discuss strengthening bilateral military cooperation, and General Rodolph Haykal, Commander of the Armed Forces of Lebanon, with whom he explored regional security developments and measures to enhance defence collaboration.

The 62nd MSC, held from February 13 to 15 at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof and Rosewood Munich, brought together nearly 50 heads of state and government, along with key European leaders and a significant German federal delegation led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Discussions at the conference addressed pressing global security issues, including European defence, the future of transatlantic relations, multilateral cooperation, regional conflicts, and the security implications of technological advancements.

Through these engagements, Field Marshal Munir underscored Pakistan’s commitment to fostering dialogue, strengthening defence partnerships, and contributing to global peace and stability.
