Pakistan, Indonesia agree to strengthen defence industry ties

RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at GHQ Rawalpindi, where both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the defence industry.

During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in training, defence production, and institutional linkages, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Indonesian delegation commended the professional performance of the Pakistan Armed Forces and their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, expressing a strong desire to further deepen defence relations with Pakistan.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining stable and long-term defence ties with Indonesia, ISPR added.

The talks highlight a growing focus on regional security and joint defence capabilities between the two countries.

Later in the day, the minister also visited Air Headquarters in Islamabad and met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen the historical and fraternal defence relations between Pakistan and Indonesia. They emphasised enhancing training, capacity building, and technical cooperation between the two countries’ air forces.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu briefed the delegation on the Pakistan Air Force’s modern and multidimensional operational preparedness. The Indonesian Defence Minister praised the professional skills and combat readiness of the Pakistan Air Force and appreciated local achievements under the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park.

The Indonesian side expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation in training, aviation, and aerospace sectors. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence cooperation through continuous engagement and dialogue.
