Financial woes: PIA cancels 14 flights

KARACHI: In light of the ongoing financial crisis, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is facing the imminent suspension of its flight operations.

The PIA spokesperson has officially confirmed the suspension of 14 flights originally scheduled for today (Monday). This decision comes as a result of the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) once again halting the supply of fuel to PIA due to non-payment of dues.

Reportedly, PIA owes an outstanding amount of Rs 650 million to the Pakistan State Oil, in accordance with the agreed payment schedule.

Passengers suffer as several PIA flights delayed

This disruption has severely impacted flight operations, particularly at Multan, Sukkur, and Gilgit airports, with concerns now rising about the possibility of a complete closure.

Sources indicate that Pakistan International Airlines requires an infusion of Rs 7 billion to sustain its flight operations, leading the national carrier to seek assistance from the caretaker government.

The airline’s future remains uncertain as it grapples with these financial challenges.
