Fire erupts in plaza near Liberty Chowk, as rescue operation underway

LAHORE: A massive fire erupted in a plaza near Liberty Chowk in Lahore on late Thursday evening, as citizens witnessed heavy flames and smoke rising from the building.

While the incident footage is rapidly going viral online, there are currently no reports of any human loss in the incident.

Rescue 1122 teams and firefighting units have been deployed and are conducting an ongoing operation to control the blaze.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the fire broke out on the upper floors of Big City Tower near Liberty Chowk.

The operation includes 12 fire emergency vehicles and around 40 firefighters, while a specialized snorkel is also being used to reach higher floors.

Sources said that the fire may have started due to a short circuit, though officials have not yet confirmed the final cause.
