ISLAMABAD: A fire broke out in sector MF-17 of the Margalla Hills, prompting a response from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams. The flames have ignited at two different locations, with Shahdara Hill suffering from a particularly stubborn blaze. A significant area of Shahdara Hill has been affected, and CDA staff are working to extinguish the fire.

The recent spate of fires in the Margalla Hills has posed a severe threat to the region’s natural beauty and wildlife. In the past months, the hills have witnessed several fire incidents, raising concerns over environmental conservation and security measures.

On May 29, multiple fires erupted across the Margalla Hills, leading a minister to call for an investigation. The following day, 15 fires broke out simultaneously within the Margalla Hills National Park. An intensive operation involving over 200 firefighters and three helicopters was launched to combat the flames.

The situation escalated on June 1, when three suspects were arrested in connection with the fire incidents. Despite these arrests, fires continued to ravage the area. On June 2, a fire in the Shahdara area was reportedly caused by unknown individuals attempting to conceal a crime by burning a dead body.

These repeated fire incidents underscore the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in safeguarding the Margalla Hills. The frequent outbreaks not only threaten the delicate habitat but also highlight the need for enhanced security and more robust environmental protection efforts.
