Five killed as school wall collapses in Karachi’s Orangi Town

KARACHI: At least five people were killed and two others injured on Friday when a dilapidated wall of a government school collapsed in Karachi’s Orangi Town, police said.

The incident occurred near the Government School at Block L football ground in the Mominabad area, police said.

Seven people were trapped under the debris, five of whom died, according to the spokesperson for the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West.

The bodies and injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, while rescue workers took part in relief operations at the site.

The SSP West spokesperson said that initial information suggested the victims were trying to remove steel bars from the old wall when it collapsed.

The deceased and injured were reportedly drug addicts. Police said the men were allegedly trying to remove steel rods from the school wall when it collapsed, causing the accident

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed condolences over the deaths and directed authorities to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured.

He also sought a detailed report on the incident.
