Five local climbers summit Tirich Mir for climate awareness

GILGIT: A team of five local climbers from Gilgit-Baltistan on a mission to create awareness about the impact of climate change on high altitudes successfully summited Tirich Mir (7708m) — the highest mountain of the Hindu Kush range on Friday.
The team, led by renowned climber Abdul Joshi, also known as “The Pathfinder,” from Shimshal Valley, included Hameed Ullah, Faryad Karim, Mansoor Karim, and Nisar Ahmed, all from Shimshal Valley in Hunza.
“By the grace of Allah Almighty, Abdul Joshi — The Pathfinder— along with the Shimshal Mountain Guides team – has successfully summited Tirich Mir on August 1st, 2025,” Shimshal Mountain Guides, a tour organizing company owned by Joshi, said in a statement.

The statement said this makes them the first Pakistani team to stand on the highest peak of the Hindu Kush – a true milestone in Pakistan’s mountaineering history.
“History has been made! The route to the summit was exceptionally long, which made the push extremely challenging. But the team showed remarkable strength, determination, and unity,” the statement read.
The statement said that the expedition was part of Joshi’s Summit for Climate Change initiative, highlighting the urgent need to protect our fragile mountain ecosystems. “Please keep the team in your prayers for a safe and successful descent,” it added.
While talking to HUM News English, Abdul Joshi’s business partner Kaleem Farhadi said that the team summited the peak via a new route at around 6:30pm.

While talking about the Summit for Climate Change initiative, he said that Abdul Joshi has launched the initiative with the mission to summit the highest peaks of all mountain ranges in the world and collect first-hand data on climate impacts on high-altitudes.
“Under this initiative, Joshi has summited Mount Everest, K2, and Aconcagua. He shares the data collected with researchers who conduct research and further share it with policymakers. He also conducts sessions and seminars,” he added.
Farhadi said that Joshi also achieved the first ever winter summit of Snow Lake and first ever summit of Passu Cones.

“The initiative is ongoing, and he has a mission to summit the highest peaks of five mountain ranges in China and also summit the highest peaks of mountain ranges in the United States,” he added.
