WEB DESK: Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district conducted a significant intelligence‑based operation on Thursday Jan 29 against armed militants, resulting in the deaths of five terrorists and injuries to several others. The action was a joint effort by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), local police, and other security units, carried out after credible intelligence about militant presence in the area.

Officials said the operation took place in Domel tehsil, particularly around Akbar Ali Khan Village and Sparka area, where militants linked to the banned militant group often operate. The engagement included a sustained firefight throughout the day, and seven militants were wounded in the clashes.

According to Bannu’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Sajjad Khan, the operation was aimed at dismantling hideouts and neutralising militants disrupting security and stability in the region. A search and clearance effort continued after the main action to prevent any remaining militants from escaping.
While security forces reported no casualties among their personnel, authorities are continuing surveillance and area control measures following the operation.

Bannu and surrounding areas in northwest Pakistan have seen repeated militant activity in recent years, with frequent intelligence operations targeting members of the banned Tehreek‑e‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliated groups. These operations form part of ongoing efforts by Pakistan’s law enforcement and counter‑terrorism agencies to curb militant threats and restore stability in the volatile region.
