MADRID: Former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been announced as returning to lead the Spanish club more than a decade after his previous spell, club president Florentino Pérez confirmed on Monday.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, guiding the team to the La Liga title in 2012. He has remained close to Pérez since leaving the club.
According to the latest updates from the Madrid club, the Portuguese coach, who most recently managed Benfica from September 2025, will once again take charge of Los Blancos.
His return is expected to be formally announced after Real Madrid’s final match of the season against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Mourinho has previously coached several top European clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Roma.
Reports suggest his contract may include an option to extend his stay beyond the 2028 season.
