Speaking after the extended negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said several rounds of “comprehensive and constructive” discussions took place between the two delegations. He thanked both delegations for participating in the dialogue.
He added that as he as the Vice President, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, assisted in facilitating the negotiation process. He expressed hope that both the US and Iran continue to uphold their commitment to ceasefire and continue to pursue peace.
Iran also acknowledged Pakistan’s role, with Foreign Office spokesperson Ismail Baqaei praising Islamabad’s efforts in advancing the dialogue and thanking the Pakistani government for hosting the talks.
However, the officials have described the talks as intensive but inconclusive.
Earlier, in a media briefing in Islamabad, US Vice President JD Vance said the 21-hour-long negotiations covered key issues in detail but did not result in a final agreement with Iran. He stated that the United States had clearly presented its terms and is returning with what he described as its “best offer” for Tehran.
Vance also expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s leadership for its hospitality and support, noting that Islamabad played a significant role in facilitating engagement between the two sides. He added that the next step now depends on Iran’s response to the US proposal.
Despite the lack of a final deal, officials from all sides characterized the talks as substantive, keeping the door open for further diplomatic progress.
