ISLAMABAD: Reham Khan, the former wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, has offered candid advice to actress Hania Aamir, urging her to avoid rushing into marriage.
In a recent comment, British-Pakistani journalist Reham emphasised the importance of young women prioritising their careers before making life-altering decisions like marriage.
“I advise my daughters the same: build your strength, establish your independence, and then consider marriage,” she said.
Reham, who earlier rubbished social media reports about her divorce from her third husband Mirza Bilal, warned against the misconception that marriage brings freedom, noting that for many women, it often leads to greater restrictions. “Marriage should not be a necessity but a choice,” she said, cautioning against societal or familial pressure to wed, especially given the lack of guarantees in finding an ideal partner.
She also highlighted that marriage-related pressure is not exclusive to women, acknowledging that men face similar societal expectations.
She urged parents to reconsider outdated views, stressing that daughters are not burdens. Instead, she encouraged families to invest in their daughters’ education and skills to ensure financial independence.
Reham also cautioned parents about the potential consequences of pressuring daughters into marriage.
“In cases of divorce or marital difficulties, the responsibility often falls back on parents. It’s crucial to equip girls with the tools to stand on their own,” she said.
Earlier, Hania Aamir revealed that she hss been struggling with her mental health. Known for her vibrant presence on social media, she took to Instagram to share her feelings openly with her followers.
