Fog to persist: No rain in sight for Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are set to grapple with persistent dense fog and bone-chilling temperatures throughout the week with prediction of no rain, as indicated by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD has warned that dense fog is likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Sindh, and Islamabad, urging citizens to exercise caution.

In Islamabad, the nighttime temperatures have plummeted to nearly zero due to the foggy conditions, expected to dissipate by early afternoon.

PMD Director Forecasting Irfan Virk stated that dry and cold weather will dominate the week, with no significant rain expected in Islamabad in the coming days. However, there is a possibility of light rain in certain parts of Balochistan within the next 24 hours.

The PMD forecasts indicate that fog patches, varying from normal to dense, will persist in the plain areas until the next bout of rain.

According to the daily forecast, most parts of the country can expect mainly cold and dry weather over the next 24 hours, with very cold conditions anticipated in the northern regions and north Balochistan.

Analyzing the synoptic situation, the PMD notes the prevalence of continental air over most parts of the country, along with a shallow westerly wave in western Balochistan.

While no substantial rain is expected, isolated drizzling may occur in southwestern Balochistan and the coastal areas of Makran.

As citizens brace themselves for the continuing fog and cold, the week unfolds with a stark absence of significant rainfall.
