Foreign nationals arrested in Karachi raids over investment fraud

KARACHI: Foreign nationals involved in defrauding citizens under the guise of investment schemes were arrested during raids in Karachi’s Defence area, officials said.

The raids were carried out at two locations in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency in coordination with intelligence agencies. The joint operation was conducted in DHA Phase I and Phase VI.

During the raids, foreign nationals were taken into custody and important and sensitive data was seized from their possession.

Authorities said the arrested individuals were running a large, organised network through a Ponzi scheme, targeting citizens with false investment promises.

They said that efforts are under way to arrest other individuals linked to the network, officials added.

The officials did not disclose the names of the arrested individuals, however.
