Former CEO DRAP booked

DRAP

ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Akhtar Hussain, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has been booked over allegations of possessing a fake PhD degree.

The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) anti-corruption wing has lodged a case against Hussain.

Hussain’s dubious journey includes deceiving authorities by faking his death not once, but twice, in an attempt to slip through the cracks of fake degree charges.

The laundry list of accusations against him include amassing a staggering wealth of over Rs100 billion to drawing salaries and allowances post his government service termination.

DRAP authorities raid pharma distributors, recover banned Avastin injections

The First Information Report (FIR) unearths a series of alleged transgressions, from manipulating medicine prices to securing promotions without due process and tampering with official records at DRAP.

A Joint Enquiry Team (JET), spearheaded by Rana Jabar, Additional Director General North FIA, delved into over 100 complaints against various DRAP officials.

Their first inquiry culminated in the recommendation for an FIR against Hussain—a pivotal step in holding a high-profile figure accountable.

Afzal Niazi, Deputy Director FIA Anti-Corruption Circle, wasted no time in constituting 12 teams to track down Hussain. Raids have been conducted on the house, offices, factories, university and distribution of Hussain. Hussain has turned his mobile phone off and has been hiding at an undisclosed location.

Yet, FIA has placed his name on Stop List to leave Pakistan and in a few days, the FIA will move an application in court to block his CNIC. Even then, if he did not surrender before the law, his properties and businesses will be confiscated.
