Former England cricketer Robin Smith dies at 62

LONDON: Former England batter Robin Smith has passed away at the age of 62 on Monday.

His family confirmed the Robin Smith death incident, adding that Robin Smith’s pass-away appeared to be unexpected, as it took place in his apartment in South Perth.

The cause of his death has not been determined, the deceased player’s family members said.

In a statement the deceased family said, “It is with the deepest and most profound sense of sadness and loss that we must announce the passing of Robin Smith. Robin rose to fame as one of England’s most charismatic and popular players.”

“A brave and dashing batsman, he excelled both for Hampshire and his adopted country, collecting legions of admirers and friends along the way,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Smith has played a total of 62 Test matches, scoring an average of 43.67 and nice centuries from 1988 to 1996.

“He will rightly be remembered as a great of Hampshire CCC. We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing, and the thoughts of everyone in the cricketing community are with his friends, family, and loved ones.”

By the time he retired in 2003, after a remarkable 22-year career, he had amassed an impressive 26,155 runs in first-class cricket, maintaining a solid average of 41.51.
