Former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi has been critically injured after his residence in Tehran was struck during ongoing U.S.-Israeli military operations, according to Iranian state-linked media. Iranian officials said Kharazi had recently been involved in diplomatic outreach to Pakistan regarding a potential meeting between Iranian representatives and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
The report said Kharazi was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following the attack, while his wife was killed in the same strike. No official statement has yet been issued by Iranian authorities providing further details on his condition.
The incident comes amid escalating hostilities between Iran and a U.S.-Israeli alliance, with air strikes targeting key locations in and around the capital. Tehran has repeatedly condemned the attacks, which have intensified since the outbreak of the conflict earlier this year.
Kharazi, a veteran diplomat, served as Iran’s foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 and has remained an influential figure in the country’s foreign policy circles. In recent years, he headed the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, an advisory body that plays a role in shaping Iran’s international outlook.
He also served as a close adviser to former supreme leader Ali Khamenei. Following Khamenei’s death on February 28, the first day of the current conflict, Kharazi continued to advise the leadership under the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
The reported strike on his home underscores the widening scope of the conflict, which has increasingly affected senior political figures and civilian areas. Analysts warn that such developments risk further escalation, as both sides continue to exchange threats and military action.
There has been no immediate response from U.S. or Israeli officials regarding the reported targeting of Kharazi’s residence.
